13Cr & Super 13Cr
13Cr (420Mod)
13 Cr UNS S42000, is a quenched and tempered martensitic stainless steel used for corrosion resistance in sweet (CO2) and mildly sour (H2S) environments up to 300°F. Commonly used as downhole tubulars, components, packers, and other subsurface equipment, it is included in API 5CT as Group 2, Grade L80, Type 13Cr. Its controlled yield strength and hardness comply with NACE MR0175.
This grade is best suited for mildly corrosive conditions as pH, chlorides, temperature, and H2S may limit its use. NACE MR0175/ISO15156 Table A.19 provides a recommended limit of 1.5 psi partial pressure H2S with pH ≥3.5.

Super 13Cr
Super 13Cr is a martensitic stainless steel that offers high performance and excellent corrosion resistance in oilfield environments containing CO2, chlorides and low concentrations of H2S. It is available in two conditions. A 95 ksi min yield condition that is suitable for limited NACE sour service environments with a maximum hardness of 28 HRC. A 110 ksi version is also available for standard and CO2 oilfield environments. This material is commonly used in downhole completion tools for components such as offset mandrels, packers, and safety valves among other applications.
